Aurora Systems, a US-based manufacturer of liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) chip solutions, recently announced the introduction of a new line of LCOS products designed for mobile projection applications. Designed to meet challenging size, power and image requirements, these products are ideally suited for embedding in cellular phones and other converged devices.
The inaugural Lazr Imagr is a single panel color field sequential device with VGA resolution. The active array of the imager has a 4.5mm diagonal on a die size of only 5.2×7.5mm. Patented image processing and fast response liquid crystal combine to provide 24-bit image quality at relatively low bandwidth. The product is designed to drive both VGA and SVGA resolution panels. Proprietary advances in image processing enable memory to be embedded in the driver chip to limit total chipset power consumption.
Aurora will continue to offer three panel solutions for home theater projection systems. The latest single panel, color field sequential devices enables Aurora to offer a liquid crystal on silicon platform from single panel devices for mobile viewing to high resolution, three panel devices for high definition home theater applications.
